A
Glimpse of Nepal and its High Mountains |
as
seen by Ronnie Auld on his recent
trip to trek and climb in Nepal |
|
It
is intended that the talk will cover
more than just treking. It will
be about a country which has fascinated
western visitors from the days when
it was closed to everyone, through
the turbulent period in its history
when its trading lifeblood with
Tibet was cut-off, almost over night,
to the present day when tourism
has replaced the Tibetan trade and
thousands of people travel there
each year attracted by its great
icons. |
This
should be an evening full of variety,
pictures and some interesting anecdotes.

Several
of the businesses and organisations

on display in St Michael's Church.
The display has now been dismantled
but we will leave the pages here for
a bit longer so that you can have
a look if you missed them. |

Rose
Castle has had a reprieve |
The
Church Commissioners have decided, in principle,
to sell Rose Castle, which was the residence
of the Bishops of Carlisle until it was
declared unsuitable as a See House in 2009.
The Commissioners will now begin formal
consultations with the Diocese of Carlisle
and English Heritage to discuss the nature
and terms of the proposed sale.
The
Commissioners have also decided to delay
the marketing process until Autumn 2013

Dalston
Cemetery / Churchyard Management Consultation |
The
Dalston website has been asked by
the Parish Council to carry out a
special consultation on the management
of Dalston cemetery. The cemetery
and churchyard are of great importance
to the people of Dalston but recently
the PC has been asked to consider
changing the type of managment which
it uses whereby an area of the churchyard
is left unmown until the autumn, primarily
for the consultation of wildlife.
Futhermore,
part of the central area is not cut
as intensively as the new cemetery,
again as an aid to wildlife.
Some
residents have commented that the
old churchyard looks untidy and would
prefer for it to be cut with the same
frequency as the closely mown cemetery
area. |

An
Opportunity for a Volunteer

|
There
are currently one billion people
living day after day without clean
water.
A
mother dies every minute of every
day in childbirth because the healthcare
systems are not there to save her
life. These are just two of the many
injustices that exist across the world
that Oxfam is working to end. But
we can’t do it alone, and our
work cannot continue without the support
of communities throughout the UK.
Oxfam
are looking for a dedicated volunteer
to join our team and manage fundraising
collections across North Cumbria which
will support the world’s most
vulnerable people.
If
you would like to make a real and
lasting difference, please get in
touch today and find out more. Call
Harriett on 07787 180 194 or email

Dog
Fouling is becoming a Major Problem
in Dalston on The Green, the Churchyard
and the Railway Path |
Allowing
your dog to poop without scooping
the result and safely disposing in
a bin or taking it home with you is
both irresponsible and dangerous.
Even worse, some people are throwing
bags of dog muck from the railway
path over onto the railway. This is
a major health hazard for children.
This habit can potentially expose
young children to Toxocariasis
(click the link for more information
or the image to see what the worm
looks like). Maximum fine £75. |

WARNING ** |
This
collection may not be as charitable as it
sounds |
This
collection has been reported to the Police,
who followed it up and discovered that
it is NOT a charity, but a bogus company
known to Trading Standards and have even
been mentioned in Parliament. The registration
number apparently means nothing and the
phone no leads nowhere. Evidently clothing
is a lucrative business these days!
If you read it carefully you will see
that they only SUGGEST that you will be
contributing to a charity. The Police
do not believe this to be the case.
These
collections are being made quite regularly
in Dalston, so beware.

This

of progress) made by the Parish Council
in recent years. Many attempts have been
made to aleviate the growing crisis in Dalston
and it was thought helpful to publish a
summary of the current postion. Click
