Cumbria Country Council are
working in partnership with the Lake District
National Park Authority and the Cumbria District
and Borough Councils to produce county wide Supplementary
Planning Documents. These will provide guidance
to help developers put together development proposals.
The first guidance document will cover wind energy
development, and the second will cover landscape
character. They will support the policies and
proposals of the emerging Local Development Frameworks
and be adopted by each local planning authority.
Cumbria
Wind Energy Supplementary Planning Document
Following
on from preliminary consultation carried out earlier
this year, Cumbria County Council want to hear
your views on the full guidance we are producing
to help decide where wind farms might be built
in Cumbria.
A
summary of the representations CCC received earlier
this year and how they have dealt with them is
contained in the Statement of Consultation which
can be downloaded below.
Why
does Cumbria County Council need guidance on wind
farms?
Wind
farms are becoming part of our landscape. Their
numbers across Cumbria and the country have grown
substantially over the last ten years. As the
Government wants the UK to generate more of its
energy from sustainable sources, to help reduce
carbon dioxide emissions and combat climate change,
the trend is likely to continue.
Cumbria
County Council and the local planning authorities
in Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden, South
Lakeland and the Lake District National Park are,
together, producing guidance to help decide where
wind farms might be best located.
The
guidance comes in three parts which make up the
"Cumbria Wind Energy Supplementary Planning
Document - Consultation Draft".
The
consultation also includes a "Sustainability
Appraisal Report" which sets out how the
guidance will help Cumbria become more sustainable.
Your
comments are being sought on these between 30
October until 4pm on Friday 8 December 2006.
