Floral
Displays
– impressed by the spectacle of colour throughout
the village, with striking areas at Barras House
and St Michael’s School and the involvement
and hard work of the community. A larger variety
of trailing plants should be included in the baskets.
Permanent
Landscaping – impressed by the
smart elegant approach to the village. David Allen
& Co – good use of recycling material
and the introduction of a natural hedgerow, which
will benefit the diversity of species. Shrubs
and plants in the Jubilee garden were looking
a little tired – splashes of colour and
the use of different shapes required.
Conservation
and Recycling – impressed by the
involvement and help from St Michael’s school
and other young organisations in the periodic
cleaning up of the village. The use of compost
bins and the soil from them should be encouraged
through publicity.
Local
Environmental Quality – impressed
by the Green and common land at Forge Green where
species of wild flowers were allowed to develop
and new seeds had been introduced.
Public
Awareness – impressed by the village
community living alongside industry and commerce.
Everybody was doing something to contribute to
the village existence.
Overall
summary - a very good village with an
excellent church entrance and churchyard. The
community and businesses worked well together
to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Barras
House gardens were outstanding, kept and maintained
by the residents. The ‘fairy’ corner
was a good idea, bringing together all ages.
St
Michael’s School won a Certificate of Merit
in the Britain in Bloom Neighbourhood Awards.
