ISLA ST CLAIR SINGS FOR DALSTON

Plus World Premier of Carol Douglas song The Dalston Lamp

On 9th August Scottish folk singer Isla St Clair sang a wide selection of folk songs to a Victory Hall audience, which joined-in with great gusto to the various choruses. This was Isla's second visit in 12 months. She sang many popular Scottish ballads, including MacCrimmon's Lament, My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose and A Scottish Soldier, and encored with a rendering of 3 very complex mouth music songs for dancing. Particularly memorable were some songs of her childhood sung in her native Doric, the dialect and local lingo spoken in the North East of Scotland, especially around Aberdeen City and the County of Aberdeenshire.

The concert began with a world premier performance of a new song by our very own Carol Douglas entitled "THE DALSTON LAMP". It was performed by Sue Pattinson with musical arrangement by Ron Green. Read more about why Carol has written this song by clicking here, and click here to print your own copy of the lyrics. Read about the history of The Lamp by clicking here.

Sue performed the song again at Festival Friday.
