The new recreation building was opened by Founding Member Ernie Myers. The building, which was substantially funded by the big lottery fund, private donations and local subscriptions, cost about £350,000. Alan Dinning, the current chairman of the Recreation Association, announced that the cost over-run in the long development phase was only £1,000, which is a remarkable achievement in this day and age. Even before the opening, the bookings are running at 90% of capacity and the committee are having to turn away organisations wishing to make bookings. Alan said that all that remained was to remove the old Youth Club Hut, a job which he thought could be delegated to the founding members who, he felt, would want to return the site to the state in which they found it all these years ago!!!
