On
Friday night Dalston Square was cordoned off from
the main road, some market stalls erected, a band
stand placed by St Michael's Church and the public
invited to come and celebrate Dalston Festival
2006. Unfortunately some of the attractions, such
as the Morris Dancers and the Maypole saw fit
to cancel at the last minute. However, with the
Bluebell providing a barbeque and Dalstonians
attending in their hundreds, everyone was going
to enjoy themselves. People were happy just to
walk around meeting and talking to their friends.
The Dalston Festival street party provided an
opportunity for friends and acquaintances to meet,
chat and exchange reminiscences. The winners were
the people of Dalston, the losers were the traders
who perhaps turned down the opportunity to join
the party via a stall of their own. |
